A leading Portuguese designer Alexandra Moura showed their AW17 collection as part of London Fashion Week on Monday 20th.
Alexandra Moura AW17, “Here and There” looks to build a stronger connection with nature and ancestral origins. Drawing its inspiration from the Portuguese empire in the XVIII century, and its presence in East Timor, reaching up to Indonesia.
Forever fascinated by distant cultures and identity, Alexandra Moura finds in the historical period of the Portuguese expansion a romantic heritage that distinguishes the country to this day. Traditional fabrics and prints from Timor and Indonesia are reimagined in the jacquard sweaters with a shredded effect, suggesting a time and distant memories.
The signature ‘deconstruction’ of Moura’s contemporary pieces borrows subtle details from ethnic clothing and European romanticism.
The rich colour palette ranges from darker tones of ochre and brown against contrasting light blues, vibrant yellow and accents of gold. Jacquard with lamé, jersey and thick wool are manipulated to create newly tweaked silhouettes combined with bold volumes for the contemporary eye.
