For the first time, a limited edition of casts from Leonardo da Vinci’s only authenticated sculpture, Horse and Rider, will be available for public purchase starting March 10, 2025. Previously sold exclusively to private collectors, the original bronze artwork—valued at $100 million—remains secured in a Las Vegas bank vault, while the original beeswax model, dating to around 1508, is housed in a private collection in London. It was authenticated in 1985 by leading Renaissance expert Professor Carlo Pedretti.
The casts are meticulously produced by American Fine Arts, Inc. (AFA), a renowned Burbank-based foundry known for its precision and craftsmanship. “Each cast is an exact replica of the original, featuring details like a fingerprint believed to be Leonardo’s and his signature,” said AFA CEO Brett Barney.
Sales are managed by Art encounter, a Las Vegas-based art gallery and dealer with over 32 years of experience. “Given the historical significance, the edition size is incredibly limited,” noted Art encounter CEO Rod Maly. Already, 78% of the first release of 50 bronze casts has been sold, and all 25 silver editions have been claimed. Each cast is individually numbered, registered for security, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. No additional casts will be produced once this edition sells out.
“This is the closest most collectors will ever come to owning a work by Leonardo da Vinci,” said Brett Maly, President of Art encounter and a well-known art expert from Pawn Stars. “By making these casts available, the owners are giving collectors a rare opportunity to own a piece of history.”
Prices are set at $45,000 for the bronze edition and $65,000 for the solid .999 silver edition, with each purchase including a custom carrying case. Sales are f.o.b. Las Vegas, NV.
