The Illa Fantasia is once again preparing to receive the thunderous sounds of International Dub Gathering, the festival that in its second edition has been able to unite the most outstanding names of the international dub scene, opening borders to countries like Japan, the United States and Jamaica.
The final line-up provides a precise combination between the pioneers of the dub scene of the 70’s and 80’s, such as King Jammys – who will offer a live dub show for the first time in Spain, – Mad Professor and Zion Train, along with a long list of artists, producers and sound systems, all relevant in the current reggae-dub scene such as Iration Steppas, Stand High Patrol, Panda Dub and OBF, among many others.
The sound systems are another great ingredient for the festival, for all those people who are carried away by the deep vibrations offered by the characteristic sound equipment. A total of 9 sound systems coming from different parts of the continent will rumble during the three days and three nights of the festival.
This time, for Friday night, one of the most awaited meetings of the festival is the sound systems of Jah Tubbys and Word Sound & Power, which will be responsible for transferring the purest essence of the UK Dub to the amphitheater of Illa Fantasia. But before that it is the time to enjoy the 3 daytime scenarios with the teams of Legal Shot, Watts Attack, Bomb Bass HiFi and Green Light (which will be playing during the three days), each of them operated by different artists such as Coxsone Sound, Dub Files with Mellow Mood and company and also Dubkasm, who is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
For Saturday, one of the highlights will be the performance of Mad Professor, who is considered to be one of the most brilliant engineers of all time, who took the dub to a new digital age in the 80’s. He will be accompanied by Aisha, who is one of the singers whose first album High Priestess (1988, Ariwa) the professor himself has produced. Next follows one of the most anticipated performances for Saturday, Stand High Patrol and their complete sound system. Their sessions have distinguished themselves from the rest with the style they call “dubadub”, the mix of dub, dubstep and digital reggae productions, creating a space where lovers of dub, hip hop and electronic music coexist. Throughout the day we also have names that deserve to be mentioned, such as Fermin Muguruza, who will present with Chalart 58, his recent project Black is Beltza through a direct dub. As well as the performances of OBF next to Charlie P and Iseo & DodoSound.
The International Dub Gathering will release the second edition on a big scale. Beginning with Jamaican King Jammys, who has been producing music at a frantic pace since the 70’s. His well-known rhythm “Sleng Teng” opened the doors of reggae to the evolution of dance hall through digital production. He will present and mix live his wide variety of productions from the beginning of his career to the present. But that is not all, because another of Sunday’s top names will be the Iration Steppas, performing on the main stage powered by the powerful Black Board Jungle. To complete the line-up there’s Panda Dub, who will also offer a live dub show-, and the special performance by the British YT and Solo Banton, who will take charge of the musical selection themselves as well as singing.
Another new feature this year is the sound clash between Fire Warriors and Chalice Sound. A musical battle that has been waiting for more than a year for the followers of this type of event and it’s seeking to find its space at the International Dub Gathering.
