Leland Little Auctions is set to host its Signature Fall Auction on Saturday, September 9th, at 9:00 am (EDT), following the successful conclusion of their Fine Wine and Rare Spirits Auction held on Thursday and Friday.
This prestigious event presents a curated selection of top-quality fine art, antique furniture, and exquisite fine jewelry. Noteworthy American Fine Art pieces include an Indian ink and watercolour on paper by Diego Rivera (Mexican, 1886-1957), titled “Mujer Cargando Ayate.” Remarkably, this work, bearing the artist’s signature and date, was originally acquired from Diego Rivera’s inaugural art broker, Alberto Misrachi, in January 1944, courtesy of Gimbel Brothers.
The auction also showcases a captivating array of works from highly acclaimed North Carolina artists. Among them is an oil on canvas by Claude Howell (NC, 1915-1997), titled “Heading Shrimp,” which is signed and dated on the lower right. Additionally, there’s an oil on canvas by Maud Gatewood (NC, 1934-2004), titled “Breakers,” and an acrylic on canvas by Ivey Hayes (American, 1948-2012), titled “Mama’s Quilt.”
European Fine Art enthusiasts will appreciate a drawing by Henry Moore (British, 1898-1986), a black chalk and Indian ink on paper portraying a “Standing Female Nude,” adorned with the artist’s pencil signature. Another highlight is an oil on canvas by Paul Emile Pissarro (French, 1884-1972), titled “Gerbes de Bles, Soleil Couchant,” capturing the essence of the autumn season, and bearing the artist’s signature on the lower left.
The Antique American Furniture section boasts a Federal Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock, attributed to Wood & Taylor, New York, circa 1810, exquisitely embellished with inlaid ornamentation, representing the pinnacle of Federal-era craftsmanship. Equally impressive is an Important Philadelphia Queen Anne Carved Walnut Armchair, attributed to William Savery (1721-1787).
Jewellery aficionados can explore a range of exquisite offerings, with a standout being an Art Deco, Platinum, Diamond, and Sapphire Bracelet by J.E. Caldwell & Co. This bracelet features geometric links in a buckle motif, adorned with transitional cut diamonds totalling approximately 9.24 carats and bezel-set baguette-cut diamonds weighing approximately 1.09 carats. It is signed and numbered N3698, boasting a total diamond weight of around 10.33 carats.
