Jamaica: Africa’s Close Cousin? delves into the historical and cultural bonds that link the Caribbean and Africa. Through powerful conversations and immersive storytelling, Busigu examines how these connections shape identity, heritage, and the broader narrative of global Black consciousness. Venturing to Jamaica for the first time, he embarks on his most ambitious documentary yet, seeking to uncover the island’s deep resonance with Mother Africa.

To bring this vision to life, Busigu is collaborating with Violet Palmer, MBA, founder of Paul Bel Kay, whose work supports the transformation of Montego Bay into a smart city alongside key partners such as Mayor Richard Vernon, Mastercard, and Bloomberg. Through this partnership, the documentary will feature exclusive interviews with influential voices from Jamaica’s cultural and political landscape.

“This film isn’t just about tracing historical connections—it’s about reimagining how we tell our collective story,” says Busigu, who was recognized by GQ South Africa as “Africa’s Modern Storyteller.” “By exploring Jamaica’s African heritage and its modern cultural expressions, we’re creating a fresh perspective on the global Black experience.”

Building on themes from his previous documentaries, Busigu is pushing creative boundaries with cutting-edge drone cinematography and archival footage restoration. His partnership with local production company Cab Concepts ensures historical accuracy and cultural authenticity throughout the film.

Busigu and his team are actively seeking sponsors and collaborators to support the production and distribution of this groundbreaking documentary. Norman Busigu is a British-Ugandan filmmaker, media broadcaster, and fashion model. In December 2023, GQ South Africa recognized him as “Africa’s Modern Storyteller” for his groundbreaking work in film and media, helping to reshape Africa’s global narrative.

As a broadcaster, he made history as BEN Television’s first International News Correspondent with a weekly slot and has hosted events at prestigious venues, including the UK Houses of Parliament. In 2022, he was nominated for “Excellence in Journalism” by the Global African Awards.

Cab Concepts is a premier media company specializing in corporate advertising, television series, and multimedia storytelling. Their portfolio includes high-profile clients such as the Jamaican Ministry of Health and Wellness.
