During Riga Fashion Week, Latvian fashion brand One Wolf announced a new collaboration with the “Pasaules Dabas Fonds in association with WWF”, continuing to invest in a sustainable fashion direction. From now on, the brand will donate EUR 10 for nature protection to the “Pasaules Dabas Fonds in association with WWF” from each of the sold recycled or upcycled clothing model made of already worn denim fabrics or from production waste.
One Wolf designer, Agnese Narnicka, pointed out: “The production of clothing from a fabric waste or already used textile requires more labour resources and therefore models of this collection are available in limited quantities and also more expensive. This is part of our design philosophy to create nothing redundant and to think about the durability of clothing, both in terms of quality and design. Sustainable clothing aims to increase the value of local production and products, extend the life cycle of materials, increase the value of clothing, reduce waste and reduce environmental damage This collection aims to educate people about more environmentally friendly consumption.”
Magda Jentgena, Baltic Sea and freshwater programme manager for Pasaules Dabas Fonds: “The fashion industry consumes a lot of resources, including water. Now is the time for the fashion industry to look for ways to mitigate their environmental impact. Many of the garments in our cabinets have been produced from petroleum products (such as polyester, nylon and textile colours). However, cotton production is not innocent either, as it is intended to grow and harvested rapidly, using extreme amounts of water and pesticides to produce and sell the garment unit at the most affordable price. For one kilogram of cotton (from which one t-shirt or pair of jeans can be made), up to 20,000 litres of water may be needed. We produce up to 20 million tonnes of cotton annually in more than 90 countries worldwide. For cotton production worldwide, up to 35% of all pesticides and insecticides are used. Of course, we also need to consider consumer demand, because without it would not be a fast fashion market. That is why the “Pasaules Dabas Fonds in association with WWF” calls for the purchase of clothing for which the life cycle is as long as possible.”
One Wolf’s new spring-summer 2020 collection, “Outsiders”, is the first collection where the brand presents models designed from an already worn fabric of jeans – a unisex jacket, vest and bag. It was a great opportunity for worn, aesthetically unattractive jeans to be transformed into a new design that “speaks” not only visual language but also reflects our thoughts and values in attitude to the life and world we live in. Customers already can purchase a t-shirt and dress made off from the fabric waste of production process.
One Wolf is a Latvian fashion brand founded in Riga, Latvia. The philosophy of the brand is to inspire people to become more courageous, be free, and express their creativity. It is a unisex brand, what mixes functionality, wit, intelligence and asceticism. Each collection is a new story about unusual in human life and reflects reflections about the aesthetics of contemporary urban life.
