The rain is starting to affect the mood, the wind blows the minds to different directions, the cold makes us think about a weekend runaway to a warm place or at least about the new clothes for autumn. You can start creating your outfits around the great item – sweater – cozy to wear on chilly summer nights or a must to show under your cashmere coat.
The four greatest trends on the runaway and in the stores are right here for you.
Turtleneck
Turtleneck or polo neck, or roll neck, call it whatever you want, has a long history and probably is one of the most classy styles for the upper piece of clothing that keeps you warm on a chilly day. Turtleneck clothing has been worn for hundreds of years, it was associated with athletes, sailors and office workers until the philosophers, artists and intellectuals took it over. Today you do not need to be any of these in order to wear the turtleneck style. Play around with statement necklaces, choose autumn colors like burgundy, dark green or mustard yellow (Haider Ackermann, The Row, Jean Paul Gaultier) or stay classy in black, white, grey or camel (Fendi, Chanel, Ralph Lauren). Do not forget the best advantage – you do not need to wear the scarf in order to keep your neck warm.
Color blocks
The days are getting shorter and darker in autumn, thus people are getting moody and dispirited. Add some vitamins and cheer up without taking a pill – wear bright colored sweaters. Designers from Proenza Schouler to Stella McCartney took the advantage of the sweaters as an often variable item and added the whole palette of colors to them. Choose colored sleeves, stripes or ombre pattern and brighten up your day.
Short sleeves
Do you want to look hot on a cold day? Wear short-sleeved knitwear over a blouse or the shirt or even on a naked body if you are on the party. Designers (Erdem, Hermut Lang, Proenza Schouler) play with the length of the sleeves that varies from three quarters to totally sleeveless. Even Chanel had this model on a runaway, so you might consider it as a new purchase.
Details
Beads, zippers, leather, pictures, flowers and absolutely everything else that adds freshness to the simple sweater will work well. Proenza Schouler and Phillip Lim plays with zippers, Helmut Lang and Jason Wu goes for the pieces of different leather while Markus Lupfer and Lanvin adds some shiny beads and creates a playful accessory out of a sweater. Choose detailed sweaters as a statement piece and do not overdo the bottoms, at least you like boho chic style.
Stay happy, stylish and warm, the summer will come back!
