The 4th Dimensions festival concluded in spectacular style over the weekend in Croatia. Selling out in advance with a capped capacity, 7,500 people from around the world came to the beautiful city of Pula’s 2000-year old Roman Amphitheatre and its abandoned 19th-century fortress overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
Dimensions climaxed with a jaw-dropping show from George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic on the totally transformed Clearing stage on Sunday. Wild scenes saw George and his collective of singers and musicians blasting out hit after iconic hit, the legendary funk master and his crew creating an electric atmosphere which Moodymann continued to an ecstatic packed crowd.
As one of the bastions of the underground music scene, Dimensions brought some of the world’s finest talent to Croatia once more across the labyrinthine 19th-century fortress overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Labels, collectives and partners included everything from an epic boat party with MCDE and Jeremy Underground to Mala once again smashing Mungo’s Arena to the countless stand out sets each day and night; Ben Klock’s blistering techno and Lil Louis’ ground-shaking basslines, to sublime disco from Daniele Baldelli and Sadar Bahar, Âme’s meticulous mastery of music, as well as new comers Nao, a 22a takeover and Gabriel Garzon Montano all emblematic of Dimension’s scintillating sonic sphere and its commitment the supporting the next wave of talent.
The festival draws an audience from right across the world, a meeting of minds and music from true pioneers, leaders and inspirations from techno, house, disco and more. With further edification from the Knowledge Arena’s conversation with some amazing names including George Clinton himself, a rare conversation with Underground Resistance and Dimensions regular Mala, as well as festival goers being able to try out some of the latest technologies, Dimensions has produced not only a full weekend of amazing music but explored some of the crucial technologies, influences and people behind it.
Boiler Room, RBMA, NTS Radio and Berlin Community Radio all streamed live from the festival, with the retrospective sets to be released soon. And new for this year, the festival also hosted its own live streaming in partnership with Daily Motion, reaching out further to its worldwide audience.
